3 days in Sydney

I have had another glorious week. A few months ago while desperately yearning for a holiday it occurred to me that a trip to visit one of my dear ones in Sydney might be an option. Then, a second dear one moved to Sydney for a three month window. The stars aligned and early Tuesday morning I jumped on a plane.

I have never been that into Sydney but I now know I was just doing it wrong. I have previously stayed in the city, which is uninspiring, whereas the inner suburbs are full of character and fun. I also think that I am looking at the world differently these days and appreciating all the little moments of wonderful more keenly. Plus Sydney is beautiful. I suspect it has Melbournised a little since my last trip four years ago- the coffee is better and cheaper and there has been a move towards more of the casual dining I enjoy.

You simply cannot argue with this scenery

I stayed in my friend's little apartment in Potts Point in a lovely little neighbourhood and it just so happens that the rooftop looks like this.

It was a blissful three days of eating and drinking. Those that follow me on Instagram already know I managed Gelato Messina four times in three days (and not just one little scoop each time either ;)

I made it to Love, Tilly Devine, a fabulous wine bar specialising in natural wines.

I spent a day in Newtown, eating at Brewtown Newtown where I devoured my first cronut.

I shopped at the amazing Made 590 where all the clothes are locally made and I bought a skirt with cameras on it!

I walked from Potts Point to The Rocks to have wine and dinner with one of my dear ones, who I had not seen for 2.5 years.

I went to the Art Gallery, ate macarons (Zumbo no less), drank Champagne on a rooftop and ate pasta served in a giant wheel of cheese.

So much wonderful time spent exploring alone and catching up with wonderful friends. I feel terribly spoilt by the universe.

Happy Monday

  1. Oh my goodness, how good are those cronuts? "Drool." I must say I'm very impressed with your track record at Messina, I haven't been more than once a year, (but not for the want of trying!) Looks like you had an absolutely fabulous time - it's hard not to in Sydney, it's such an ace place (not that I'm biased or anything!)

  2. I was born in Sydney and grew up in northern NSW so have a real bond with Sydney. And so true, the CBD is not why you go there, there are so many beautiful places to see and stuff to do not too far out.

Lovely, lovely pics, it makes me miss it so much.

    1. Thank you :) I grew up in Northern NSW too.
I think Sydney makes you think the centre is where it's at because of the amazing landmarks. Can't wait to go back.

  3. Yay! Sydney CAN be awesome, you just need to know where to go. I have just spent a couple of days in Melbs and it really is the better, more accessible, more delightful city. But Sydney goes okay!?! x

  4. It looks like you had a wonderful time and four trips to Messina is nothing less then impressive!! My sister lived in Sydney for four years and I miss regular trips up there. I completely agree that the character is in the suburbs. Your friends rooftop is amazing, that view will never get old. I still havent tried a cronut!! That one looks particularly delicious.
